Of Furries and Government
A chat with my good friend tamino about what a Furry Government would look like.
hemms3: I'm thinking of getting that flag made into a real flag once I have 70$ to spare.
aminotay: interesting. i didn't know there were places that made flags, but it makes sense that there would be.
hemms3: Yuppers. Banners and stuff. There is this one place by my house

aminotay: i don't think people would go for it. i think http://www.fur.com/peace/ has been around long enough and has enough recognition that maybe *that* logo would capture people's attention, but you'd have to ask permission.
hemms3: Yeah I know about Fur Peace. But this is more of a national symbol, not a political one.

aminotay: i think Whitefire intended Furry Peace much the same way, honestly. displaying that icon on your web page meant that you took furry seriously, and that it's not just a hobby to you, and you actually care about the community, and you're willing to stand up for it.

hemms3: anyone who cares enough to join a political affiliation cares enough about the subject

hemms3: Where we get together and identify furry "Districts" and those districts elect "mayors"
hemms3: and those mayors elect a "governor" For the furries of that country
hemms3: and those governers meet with a counsil headed by a president elected by the Furry
world

hemms3: basically an organized Fandom that sits and talks things out
hemms3: and progresses
hemms3: but then you get into the idea of land
hemms3: and Furry Zionism
aminotay: the reason why i don't think that could work is that you will *never* get a majority of
furries to trust in, and believe in, the same leadership. there will always be groups who believe in so-and-so and groups who believe in such-and-such.

hemms3: OH yes there will be political parties
hemms3: party lines that go back and names we are allready familiar with
hemms3: liberal Fozen Furs
hemms3: and conservative Burned Furs
hemms3: and of course elections will wun along thoser lin es
hemms3: and its a price to pay but it will be stable
hemms3: and more reputable.
hemms3: than a bunch of people on the internet.
hemms3: Really, the thing about this Fandom is that it has no anchor but tradition.
hemms3: I mean we really have everything a Tribe has
hemms3: we have our own form of dress
hemms3: our own sub dialect or language or unique words
hemms3: all we don't have is a homeland and to some extend a musical style all our own
aminotay: and i think that's how it's going to stay, honestly. i *absolutely support* efforts on a
*small scale* at making mini-tribes, that make no pretense of representing furry in general.
aminotay: has aloha talked with you about his idea of a big farming commune?
hemms3: Nope but I'm familiar with that idea
aminotay: that seems to me like something constructive... it's not saying "this is furry", it's saying "hey, we are SOME furries, if you like us and like what we're about, come join us... or if not, no biggie".
aminotay: furry is so many things to so many different people that i think that's about all you *can* do.
aminotay: the old ways -- the ways that worked for tribes of a few hundred or thousand people -- don't work anymore. i don't think we can go back to those ways. i think it's our job to figure out new ways.

hemms3: I still like the Idea of little councils that meet with bigger councils. It's not a chain of command thing. Its a representative thing. Just to keep track of Furry population growth and Furry trends and when needed push the fandom along, or push away intrusive forces like Anonymous a couple years ago. No taxes, no movement to gain a land. The less instusive and the less uprooting you do the better and easier it is to get people to listen. Its just like a senate, but it doesnt pass laws or judgements. It just keeps track of paperwork and speaks for the fandom with statistics/.
aminotay: i dunno about Anonymous specifically, but i think we're still fighting the "culture of LOL" from places like 4chan. and i don't think being organized helps you fight that. i think caring about people helps you fight that. i think people holding hands and singing together helps fight that. i think people visiting each other from 400 miles away helps fight it.
